What is a Body Blade?

The Body Blade is unlike any other piece of exercise equipment on the market today. Most other systems work on the principle of the user attempting to lift a weighted item or stretch an elastic band. The Body Blade, however, works on the opposite premise: Once the ends of the blade begin to move (or vibrate), inertia wants to keep them in motion and it’s up to you to resist. Thus, the risk of injury through overexertion is greatly reduced.

In addition, Body Blade will directly impact whatever sport you play by specifically targeting those muscle groups used in a particular sport. Many of the exercises performed with the blade mimic the same movements athletes use in competition, allowing you to train your body for the specific activity so that you can execute moves faster and with more force.

How does it build muscles?

While the rate of oscillation stays the same, the workout intensifies when the amplitude, or magnitude of the flexing tips, increases. Over the course of just one minute, the ends of the blade move back and forth 270 times. This results in 270 oscillations that your muscles have to resist. The resistance needed to control the blade can range from 1 to 34 pounds depending on the amplitude of the flexing tips. Through resisting the vibrating force of the blade, muscles required for stabilization are recruited.

How does the Body Blade create resistance?

The Body Blade is a reactive, oscillating device that utilizes inertia to generate up to 270 muscle contractions per minute. The laws of inertia state that an object set in motion remains in motion until another force acts upon it to stop or change its direction. You push and pull on the apparatus, which accelerates the blade and creates a force due to the flex or amplitude of the blade. The greater the flex, the greater the resistance that is needed by the body to counteract the destabilizing forces delivered into the body. The blade’s movement therefore requires the user to contract his or her muscles in order to neutralize these forces.

Extensive number of exercises

Included with every Body Blade purchased is 1 FREE Exercise Poster and 1 FREE Exercise DVD.

Rehabilitation using the Body Blade

body blade rehabilitation

As a rehabilitation professional, your goal is to provide a safe environment to improve the way your patients or athletes move. The elements contributing to this process:

  • Stabilization
  • Strength
  • Endurance
  • Power
  • Balance / Coordination

The compilation of these elements brings us to our ultimate result – function. Rehabilitation is the process we perform that brings about an improvement in function without causing harm in the process. Bodyblade, in its unique application, contributes to all the elements necessary in rehabilitation.

STABILIZATION

body blade stabilisation

The human skeletal muscles total 640. After you strip away the larger prime movers and most familiar groups such as the Pecs, Lats, Delts, Biceps, Triceps, Traps, Quads, Gluts, Hamstrings, Gastrocs and a few more, what are you left with? A lot! The majority of human skeletal muscle is designed for support and stabilization in preparation for exquisite movement in the body. The ability to sequence motor activity requires an intricate progression of muscular involvement from the very deepest stabilizing muscles proximally to the larger, prime moving muscles distally. The smaller stabilizers are “King” in the human body. When they are working properly, the entire system will perform well. If the smaller and more strategic muscles are slow to react, weak or communicating poorly, the process of degeneration, or sudden injury is imminent.

STRENGTH

Developing strength is critical in the protection of bones, joints, ligaments and organs of the body. Strength is important to overcome the earth’s gravity so we can successfully move about and maintain a high level of function. The body maintains a primary and secondary restraint system. The primary restraint system is the muscular system. It’s job is to protect the secondary restraint system which is the connective tissue or ligaments that provide stability to the bones and joints of the body. Rehab training must strengthen and protect the primary system of muscles to minimise the risk of injury to the secondary system. Bodyblade provides resistance training for both Type I and Type II fibres in the muscle. Also known as slow twitch (Type I) and fast twitch (Type II) muscle fibres.

ENDURANCE

body blade endurance

The ability for a muscle or group of muscles to perform accurately over a sustained period of time is critical. Fatigue results in a breakdown of neuromuscular communication, loss of motor control, poor response and poor stability. Bodyblade works to enhance the endurance of muscles allowing them to perform more accurately over a longer period of time resulting in better posture and performance and a reduction in injury likelihood.

POWER

body blade power

The training of the muscular system for strength alone is not sufficient for functional or sports specific training. Strength should always be part of rehabilitation, but on its own will often fall short of the primary goal of improved function and performance. Power is the measure of force generated over a period of time. Speed is the key element when the discussion of power is introduced. Bodyblade trains the body to react rapidly to external stimuli and communicate accurately and quickly within the neuro-muscular system.

BALANCE/COORDINATION

Balance is an integral component of rehabilitation and is an essential element for the development of strength, endurance and power. When you have good balance or control of the body, you also have coordination of movement. The ability to balance general movement with co-contraction of stabilizing muscles around the joints at just the right time contributes to wellness and stability. An elderly person trying to raise themselves out of a chair is more likely to fall from imbalance and loss of coordinated movement than weakness. By providing controlled instability in training our balance, and coordination improves resulting in a reduced likelihood of falls and therefore injury. Bodyblade challenges the body to make very rapid and accurate movements to improve motor control and ultimate function for our patients.

The Body Blade is a perfect choice for: all forms of rehabilitation including pre or post-operative exercises, sports and spinal injuries, stroke, group training classes, home exercise programs for continuity from the clinic, or any number of indications for sport specific functional performance training.
